Week 1: Drama

Hi everyone!

Beginning the Drama Journey

Welcome to the drama portion of my blog! I decided to reflect on the first class of the course with a vlog so feel free to watch the attached video. Some of the topics that I cover in the vlog are my background with learning and teaching drama, tableaux, guided visualization, and what I hope to learn from taking this course.

In the first class we began with some ice-breakers that can be utilized to engage students and also allow the teacher to get to know the students. Another activity that I thought was really interesting was the human Venn Diagram strategy where students place themselves in a man made Venn Diagram that shows their knowledge about drama. I think this is a great idea because it can be utilized in all subjects and for different topics. This is both a visual and kinesthetic way to see differences and similarities. I also touched on Dwyer's Theory of Learning in my video explanation so I will also include that below:

The focus theory was Dwyer (1996) Learner’s Theory, in which we discussed how people remember/learn:
  • 20% of what they hear
  • 30% of what they see
  • 50% of what they read/write/draw
  • 70% of what they discuss
  • 80% of what they do or experience
  • 90% of what they teach others
